ORE Catapult

NSRI and ORE Catapult hosted an event in October 2016 titled "Subsea Technological Challenges in Offshore Wind".

The aim of the event was to communicate technology challenges agreed between NSRI and ORE Catapult to the subsea industry and to generate a suite of ideas that could help to solve these challenges and lower the levelised cost of energy for offshore wind farm developments.

The event took the form of a collaborative workshop attended by technical delegates from across the subsea industry. The technological challenges in the “NSRI were described by subject matter experts. Delegates were then asked to discuss potential solutions to these challenges in groups chaired by the subject matter experts.

“The workshop stimulated a lot of positive interest in our Innovation Challenges, and a number of very credible technology concepts were presented to us. One of the concepts brought forward from the workshop has resulted in the formation of a collaborative project involving ORE Catapult, a Scottish University, and an Aberdeen-based subsea company, which we hope will lead to the development of a new marine survey technology that could solve one of the Innovation Challenges. The collaboration is currently at the feasibility stage, and has sought funding from the ETP to carry out the initial investigation into the technology and its capabilities.”
