Melfort Campbell

Melfort Campbell founded his first business in the Oil and wider Energy industry in 1985. Since then he has run, owned or invested in a number of specialist engineering businesses in oil and gas, marine, defence and process industries. Melfort built Imes Group to a £20m specialist engineering group in industries operating in the energy and marine environment.

Since selling one of the main subsidiaries in 2009 he has focused his business interests most on Marine, Oil and Gas, Defence and renewable energy. He has remained as a non executive and investor working with the management teams in his 3 remaining business interests. In Oil and Gas he has a wide industry engagement, Co-chairing, with the Energy Minister, the Scottish Government advisory board and sitting on a number of other Government and Industry boards.

Having Chaired the CBI in Scotland, and the Robert Gordon University Board of Governors, he has taken up other industry roles chairing the Scottish Government Oil and Gas Expert commission as well as being part of the MER UK (Maximising Economic Recovery) forum, the Oil and Gas Technology Centre and ONE Oil and Gas. With current work leading the Oil and Gas Sector deal under the UK Government Industrial Strategy, Melfort Campbell has been playing a role focused on changing the UK Governments perspective of the value and importance of Oil and Gas to the UK economy.

In addition Melfort chairs the Robert Gordon University Foundation, is a visiting Professor of engineering at the University of Strathclyde and Co-chaired The Innovation Scotland Forum focused on the Scottish Government’s innovation agenda.
