MEC Technique

The next generation MEC (Magnetic Eddy Current) technique is used by Innospection as a key tool for inspection. A dynamic electromagnetic technique, MEC offers the following capabilities:

• High sensitivity and reliability for detecting internal and external defects including isolated pits of small diameter and volume
• Ability to inspect through higher wall thickness and various coating types including Neoprene, Monel and TSA
• Direct sizing of defects during scanning without the need for Ultrasonic verification
• Cleaning of the asset down to the bare metal prior to inspection in order to produce good quality data is not necessary which is a major advantage over Ultrasonic capabilities.


Splash Zone Inspection

The splash zone inspection of rigid risers, caissons, conductors and subsea structures is performed with the fleet of MEC-MPS marinised scanners that has been designed and built to provide a cost effective inspection with the following advantages:

• Comprehensive inspection data within a single deployment with the incorporation of supporting inspection techniques like Ultrasonic, Pulsed Eddy Current, laser triangulation system and camera
• Simultaneous marine growth removal and inspection operation with the incorporation of an advanced cleaning system
• Smooth transition from topside directly into the splash zone and subsea area without a break in the continuity of the remotely controlled scanning.

Subsea Inspection

The inspection of non-piggable subsea pipelines, concrete coated subsea pipelines, flexible risers, umbilicals and other subsea structures is performed with the fleet of sophisticated MEC-Combi Crawler tools that has been designed and built to support subsea integrity assurance as well as to target inspection, deployment and subsea accessibility challenges. The MEC-Combi Crawler tools offer the following advantages:

• Comprehensive inspection data within a single deployment with the incorporation of supporting inspection techniques like Ultrasonic, Pulsed Eddy Current, laser triangulation system and camera
• Deployable by divers or ROV from support vessels
• Capable of self-crawling along the inspection surface to perform the inspection in axial and/or circumferential orientation
• Ability to remain in stable contact with the inspection surface despite the turbulences due to its integral buoyancy and magnetic system.

R&D Solutions

Innospection’s strength in application development and response to market demands has resulted in the further development of inspection technologies and launch of various inspection tools. Still in development is a MEC-Combi Robot to perform the hull cleaning and inspection of marine assets at their working locations without the need for dry docking to support UWILD inspection.
